Costuming for Movie Project

    Costumes are essential to the mood and feel of a film. In this blog, I will discuss what our costumes will be for our opening sequence.

    Our film is in the horror genre, but it's based in real life. This means that the costuming for our actors will be nothing different from what they usually wear! We only have two characters in this film, so the costuming will be brief and easy.


    Our first character is the protagonist. This character is wearing business casual, as if coming back from some white collar job. Plain colors, typically light so that it shows well under light. The idea behind it is that this is another average work day for the protagonist, and they are on the way home from work. The costume is common and approachable, like the character.


    Our second character is the menacing pursuer. This character is outfitted in all black to help hide in the shade of the night. This costume will come with some article of clothing to cover the face as well, like a hoodie or a mask to give the impression of suspicion as the character hides their identity as much as possible. This costume gives viewers the idea that this person doesn't want to be covert to the protagonists, but are still seen by viewers as intimidating and murky.

Fight scenes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a very impressive movie, but one of it's most entertaining aspects are its action scenes! The f ight scenes involved many kind of shots, depending on the context , and the story telling from the action. For example, whenever Shang-Chi pulls off an impressive stunt, or is locked in combat with a daunting foe, the movie utilized horizontal arc movement to show how the tide of the fight shifts from one character to another and the choreography involved in the scene. Sound Story

       This is our Foley audio clip along with the video of where the sounds came from. The process started off with how we could make a story using the environment around us, which at the time was school. Thus, our story would be a student packing up and walking to a classroom. We created this mostly with noises that come from common objects, like zippers, papers, and pencils to symbolize a school/work environment. We made sure to record very closely with our microphone to capture the best quality of sound in a secluded area to isolate the noise, and to make all the sounds loud so we could lower their volume in post.      The first attempt at editing was difficult because we had to find a decent video and audio software to splice the audio and visuals together, we. Five Shot Video Post

This first shot is an extreme closeup of my partner. I held the camera very close to his face to focus on his eyes throughout the scene. The purpose of this shot is to emphasize the facial features and emotions the person in the video as he acts through the scene (i.e. gradually opening eyes and changing posture) This shot is a low angle shot of a person walking down the stairs. It was slightly difficult trying to capture the angle but it was manageable after a couple times. The purpose behind this shot is to distort size, making the viewer seem smaller than the subject swiftly moving down the stairs, and the subject appears to be moving quicker than they actually are due to the low angle. This is a medium-full shot of a person sitting on a bench. This was relatively easy, as the only obstruction was the glare from the sky.
