Finished Project Impression

     In this blog post, I will describe what my overall impression of our finished project.


    I am actually pretty impressed with our project despite it being our first time making a film. The film is no masterpiece, and is far from being remarkable in any way, but I think it is pretty well done for some students doing it for their first time. We had many factors that limited greater quality of our film. For example, 

  • Our video recording equipment was nothing more special than one of our phones. 
  • Only one of us had any real knowledge on video editing. 
  • We had limited time and a time limit to our film
  • We struggled finding time to get together to film or complete other work
  • We are doing this for the first time
    I feel like the group did a good job, but there were times that communication was either slow or not present due to unviability, which made it hard to express ideas and address time scheduling with the group. This was one issue that stood out that was directly our fault, and with a little more effort and work could've resulted in a better project. Despite this, not everyone is perfect and we all have our own lives, so it would make sense that we would run into this issue. We still produced this sufficient film project and that's a lot more than what I could've achieved on my own.
 
    The biggest thing this project has taught me was how much we underestimated the challenge that came with this project. It's so easy to image certain scenes and concepts in a film, but is difficult in reality given the vast options of opportunity and coming to a consensus on what will be in the final product. This is just the filming process, editing in post is just as difficult, and even more complex if you toss in sound design/editing. It's no wonder why movies take so long to make.

Fight scenes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a very impressive movie, but one of it's most entertaining aspects are its action scenes! The f ight scenes involved many kind of shots, depending on the context , and the story telling from the action. Sound Story

       This is our Foley audio clip along with the video of where the sounds came from. The process started off with how we could make a story using the environment around us, which at the time was school. Thus, our story would be a student packing up and walking to a classroom. We created this mostly with noises that come from common objects, like zippers, papers, and pencils to symbolize a school/work environment. We made sure to record very closely with our microphone to capture the best quality of sound in a secluded area to isolate the noise, and to make all the sounds loud so we could lower their volume in post.      The first attempt at editing was difficult because we had to find a decent video and audio software to splice the audio and visuals together, we. Five Shot Video Post

This first shot is an extreme closeup of my partner. I held the camera very close to his face to focus on his eyes throughout the scene. The purpose of this shot is to emphasize the facial features and emotions the person in the video as he acts through the scene (i.e. gradually opening eyes and changing posture) This shot is a low angle shot of a person walking down the stairs. It was slightly difficult trying to capture the angle but it was manageable after a couple times. The purpose behind this shot is to distort size, making the viewer seem smaller than the subject swiftly moving down the stairs, and the subject appears to be moving quicker than they actually are due to the low angle. This is a medium-full shot of a person sitting on a bench. This was relatively easy, as the only obstruction was the glare from the sky.
