Inspiration for Film Project

 In this blogpost, I will give a brief explanation to what gave us inspiration for our film project and what lead up to the final product.


    My two partners and I watched movies fairly often, and were no strangers to genre. We wanted to work with a genre we would find entertaining to film and that was fairly easy to do, since something like fantasy or sci-fi would be a lot more complex and higher budget. Luckily for us, we all swiftly came to the agreement that horror would be easy to perform and come up with. Daniel Yanes came up with the idea of the surprise comic-relief skit at the end of the title sequence, which we all thought would be pretty comical and make our project unique from others.

    In terms of direct inspiration from other works, I didn't really have any myself, but Daniel Yanes took inspiration from some films like "Scary Movie", which was essentially a horror/comedy, much like our own film.

Fight scenes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a very impressive movie, but one of it's most entertaining aspects are its action scenes! The f ight scenes involved many kind of shots, depending on the context , and the story telling from the action. For example, whenever Shang-Chi pulls off an impressive stunt, or is locked in combat with a daunting foe, the movie utilized horizontal arc movement to show how the tide of the fight shifts from one character to another and the choreography involved in the scene. Sound Story

       This is our Foley audio clip along with the video of where the sounds came from. The process started off with how we could make a story using the environment around us, which at the time was school. Thus, our story would be a student packing up and walking to a classroom. We created this mostly with noises that come from common objects, like zippers, papers, and pencils to symbolize a school/work environment. We made sure to record very closely with our microphone to capture the best quality of sound in a secluded area to isolate the noise, and to make all the sounds loud so we could lower their volume in post.      The first attempt at editing was difficult because we had to find a decent video and audio software to splice the audio and visuals together, we. Five Shot Video Post

This first shot is an extreme closeup of my partner. I held the camera very close to his face to focus on his eyes throughout the scene. The purpose of this shot is to emphasize the facial features and emotions the person in the video as he acts through the scene (i.e. gradually opening eyes and changing posture) This shot is a low angle shot of a person walking down the stairs. It was slightly difficult trying to capture the angle but it was manageable after a couple times. The purpose behind this shot is to distort size, making the viewer seem smaller than the subject swiftly moving down the stairs, and the subject appears to be moving quicker than they actually are due to the low angle. This is a medium-full shot of a person sitting on a bench. This was relatively easy, as the only obstruction was the glare from the sky.
